What do Armenian Christians believe in? What does my faith mean to me? Which traditions does the Armenian Church maintain? What does the Bible reveal? Why do I have to go to church? Answers to these and similar questions, some of which are very personal, general information about the church, as well as in-depth seminars on faith are given in our diocese and in the parishes through publications, faith camps, Saturday schools, seminars or Bible studies.
In our diocese, many people work on a voluntary basis. We are very happy about this indispensable support and would like to help them and make them fit for their important tasks in the various areas of our service with our qualification offers. Our targeted offers are aimed at all board members, volunteers, church servants and people who can imagine an office in our diocese, for example in the area of children and youth work, altar service, for social affairs, senior citizens, culture, education or administration.
In several communities in our diocese, we offer children and young people the opportunity to register for a Saturday or Sunday school. There the young people not only get to know the faith of the Armenian Church, but also the Armenian language and history. They spend their free time together with their peers, do handicrafts, sing, dance and have fun doing it! In some communities, compatriots who live far away from the schools have the opportunity to take part in these classes interactively online.
Saturday schools «Surb Mesrop Mashtoz»
The Saturday Schools "Surb Mesrop Mashtoz" are a pilot project of the Armenian Community of Baden-Württemberg. They were created on the basis of more than 10 years of experience at the Saturday School of the same name in Stuttgart and offer children between the ages of 6 and 14 an expansion of their knowledge of the faith of the Armenian Church. In addition, the children learn the Armenian and/or German language, its history and culture and expand their social skills through encounters and playful projects to promote integration. In addition to the lessons, there are handicrafts, dances, singing, as well as leisure activities in the form of games, excursions and children's camps. We take care of strengthening the Armenian identity of each child and promote the integration of the children.
The children learn in small groups with us in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. There is the possibility to take part in the lessons both offline and online or to combine both. The corresponding programs for language, history and religion are in cooperation with our partner, the Armenian Virtual Collage by AGBU , developed. At the request of the parents, the children can take part in appropriate tests and obtain certificates. The specialists employed on site at our Saturday schools have a pedagogical or socio-pedagogical training and complete subject-specific further training seminars.
The Saturday schools in Stuttgart, Karlsruhe and Kehl are taking part in the pilot project. The aim after the successful completion of the project is its implementation in all parishes of the diocese of the Armenian Church in Germany and the integration of the already existing language and Saturday schools of the parishes into the uniform system.
