Blind people are healed and walk with Jesus

When Jesus and his disciples left the city of Jericho, a large crowd went with them. Two blind men were sitting on the street. When they heard that Jesus was passing, they cried out, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!" People tried to silence them, but the blind only cried out louder, "Lord, have mercy on us!" Then Jesus stopped, called them and asked: «What do you want from me?», «Lord, we would like to be able to see!» Full of compassionate love, Jesus touched their eyes. Immediately they could see, and they went with him. (Matthew 20:29-34)

Jesus and his disciples were traveling near the city of Jericho. Many curious people walked with Jesus. The two blind men stood at the side of the road and begged. At that time there were no professions that were suitable for blind people. The two blind people made a living from other people helping them or giving them something. The blind men suddenly heard many people coming. It was Jesus with the great crowd. They heard footsteps, they heard voices, they heard laughter.

Jesus had come to the place where the blind men were, and Jesus asked the two blind men, "What do you want? What should I do for you?” The blind people answered: “Lord, we want to be able to see again!” These two blind people are important for Jesus, He heals them immediately and helps them to get well. They got their sight right away. One touch of Jesus was enough for the two blind men to see perfectly. Not only did the two men get physical sight, but we read that they followed Jesus. So, through their healing, they also saw clearly the spiritual reality that Jesus really is the promised Christ, and made an instant decision to follow Him. In this way, Jesus always ministered devotedly and fully to the people, regardless of his own personal situation. Now this story happened a long time ago when Jesus was visibly living on earth. We ask ourselves: is he helping today? Yes, Jesus helps everyone today who wants his help.

Jesus still works miracles today. After all, Jesus promised that he would give a new and healthy body to all who believe in him. One day he wants to take us to heaven. Then nobody is blind or deaf or paralyzed anymore. Nobody is in pain anymore, and nobody has to die anymore. And so Jesus finally helps all who trust in him. Jesus gave up his glory in heaven to minister to us humans and to give his life for our redemption. Through his ministry he became the greatest, whom many millions of people now worship and believe in from their hearts. We are to become truly great by adopting Jesus' mind and purpose and by serving others, especially the sick and all those in need. Amen.
