The Primate, HE Bishop Isakhanyan, strongly condemns the recent attacks by the armed forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the northern border areas of Armenia.

The fighting, which has been going on for several days, has already claimed victims on both sides. Azerbaijan's military aggression, right now, in the time of the corona pandemic, is destabilizing the already shaky peace in the country Region. According to media reports, the aggressor does not even shy away from shooting at a textile factory in the border region, which is Armenia's main supplier of medical protective masks. Armenia is currently severely affected by the corona virus.

The bishop appeals to the political and church leaders in Germany and Europe to speak out for the preservation of peace in the region and to condemn any aggression and attack. It is certain that the Artsakh conflict should be resolved only through peaceful negotiations. This requires the solidarity and support of the international community.

The primate prays for the victims and their families. Although Azerbaijan has a different point of view on solving the conflict, this does not allow him to try to solve it by military aggression on Armenia and even attacking medical and humanitarian facilities. The conflict cannot be resolved militarily. The Azerbaijani armed forces should know that the Armenian side is able to defend the borders both in the Republic of Armenia and in Artsakh and inflict painful losses on them.

Bishop Isakhanyan prays for peace in the region and sincerely hopes that with international support, a just and lasting solution can be found for Artsakh so that “weapons will be silent, enemy attacks will end, and love and justice will be planted on earth.” . Amen!
